Steering Column Assembly Removal

  1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

  3. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

  4. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN LOWER COVER

  5. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN UPPER COVER

  6. REMOVE COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/ Airbag System)

  7. REMOVE COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY (w/o Airbag System)

  8. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

  9. DISCONNECT STEERING SLIDING YOKE

  10. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  11. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY

Steering Column Assembly -- Removal


CAUTION:
w/ Airbag System:
Some of these service operations affect the SRS. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS before servicing (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000KT10FWX.html).


1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD


2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION:
w/ Airbag System:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
NOTICE:
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (HILUX_TGN26 RM000004QR3008X.html).


3. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

4. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN LOWER COVER


    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25

  1. Remove the 3 bolts and lower cover.



5. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN UPPER COVER

  1. Detach the claw and remove the upper cover.



6. REMOVE COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/ Airbag System)

  1. Disconnect the connectors from the combination switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.

  1. Use pliers to hold the clamp and raise the claw with a screwdriver. Remove the combination switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.

7. REMOVE COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY (w/o Airbag System)
HINT:
Refer to the step "REMOVE COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY".

  1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 3 claws the horn contact plate.

    Tape the screwdriver tip before use.


8. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

  1. Detach the 2 claws, 3 clips and 3 guides and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel.



9. DISCONNECT STEERING SLIDING YOKE

  1. Loosen the bolt labeled A.

  1. Place matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke and steering intermediate shaft.

  1. Remove the bolt labeled B.

  1. Disconnect the steering sliding yoke from the steering intermediate shaft.



10. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY


    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25

  1. Remove the 3 bolts and cover.



11. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY

  1. Disconnect the connectors and detach the wire harness clamps from the steering column.

  1. Remove the 3 bolts and pull out the steering column together with the steering sliding with coupling yoke.
