  1. INSTALL REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSEMBLY

  2. BLEED BRAKE LINE (w/ VSC)

  3. BLEED BRAKE LINE (for TASA Made)

  4. BLEED BRAKE LINE (for TMT Made)

  5. BLEED BRAKE LINE (for TDV Made)

  6. BLEED BRAKE LINE (for TSAM Made)

  7. BLEED CLUTCH LINE (for Manual Transmission)

  8. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

  9. CHECK PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL

  10. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL

Rear Brake (For 4Wd And Pre-Runner) -- Installation


HINT:
  1. Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.
  2. The following procedure is for the LH side.


1. INSTALL REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSEMBLY
  1. Install a new brake drum gasket and rear brake drum.



2. BLEED BRAKE LINE (w/ VSC)
  1. Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.

  1. Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brakes.

    Fluid:
    SAE J1703 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT 3
  1. Remove the bleeder plug cap.

  1. Connect a vinyl tube to the bleeder plug.

  1. Depress the brake pedal several times, and then loosen the bleeder plug with the pedal depressed.*1

  1. When fluid stops coming out, tighten the bleeder plug, and then release the brake pedal.*2

  1. Repeat *1 and *2 until all air in the fluid is completely bled out.

  1. Tighten the bleeder plug completely.

    Torque:
    for Front Brake:
    11 N*m{110 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf}
    for Rear Brake:
    10 N*m{102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf}
  1. Install the bleeder plug cap.

  1. Repeat the above procedure for each wheel to bleed the brake line.

  1. Check for brake fluid leaks.

  1. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir (HILUX_TGN26 RM0000010K400UX_01_0001.html).

  1. Check and clear DTCs (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000XHV0CGX.html).



3. BLEED BRAKE LINE (for TASA Made)
  1. Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.

  1. Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brakes.

    Fluid:
    SAE J1703 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT 3
  1. Remove the bleeder plug cap.

  1. Connect a vinyl tube to the bleeder plug.

  1. Depress the brake pedal several times, and then loosen the bleeder plug with the pedal depressed.*1

  1. When fluid stops coming out, tighten the bleeder plug, and then release the brake pedal.*2

  1. Repeat *1 and *2 until all air in the fluid is completely bled out.

  1. Tighten the bleeder plug completely.

    Torque:
    for Front Brake:
    11 N*m{110 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf}
    for Rear Brake:
    10 N*m{102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf}
  1. Install the bleeder plug cap.

  1. Repeat the above procedure for each wheel to bleed the brake line.

  1. Check for brake fluid leaks.

  1. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir (HILUX_TGN26 RM0000010K4010X_01_0001.html).



4. BLEED BRAKE LINE (for TMT Made)
  1. Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.

  1. Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brakes.

    Fluid:
    SAE J1703 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT 3
  1. Remove the bleeder plug cap.

  1. Connect a vinyl tube to the bleeder plug.

  1. Depress the brake pedal several times, and then loosen the bleeder plug with the pedal depressed.*1

  1. When fluid stops coming out, tighten the bleeder plug, and then release the brake pedal.*2

  1. Repeat *1 and *2 until all air in the fluid is completely bled out.

  1. Tighten the bleeder plug completely.

    Torque:
    for Front Brake:
    11 N*m{110 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf}
    for Rear Brake:
    10 N*m{102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf}
  1. Install the bleeder plug cap.

  1. Repeat the above procedure for each wheel to bleed the brake line.

  1. Check for brake fluid leaks.

  1. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir (HILUX_TGN26 RM0000010K400VX.html).



5. BLEED BRAKE LINE (for TDV Made)
  1. Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.

  1. Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brakes.

    Fluid:
    SAE J1703 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT 3
  1. Remove the bleeder plug cap.

  1. Connect a vinyl tube to the bleeder plug.

  1. Depress the brake pedal several times, and then loosen the bleeder plug with the pedal depressed.*1

  1. When fluid stops coming out, tighten the bleeder plug, and then release the brake pedal.*2

  1. Repeat *1 and *2 until all air in the fluid is completely bled out.

  1. Tighten the bleeder plug completely.

    Torque:
    for Front Brake:
    11 N*m{110 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf}
    for Rear Brake:
    10 N*m{102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf}
  1. Install the bleeder plug cap.

  1. Repeat the above procedure for each wheel to bleed the brake line.

  1. Check for brake fluid leaks.

  1. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir (HILUX_TGN26 RM0000010K4018X.html).



6. BLEED BRAKE LINE (for TSAM Made)
  1. Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.

  1. Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brakes.

    Fluid:
    SAE J1704 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT 4
  1. Remove the bleeder plug cap.

  1. Connect a vinyl tube to the bleeder plug.

  1. Depress the brake pedal several times, and then loosen the bleeder plug with the pedal depressed.*1

  1. When fluid stops coming out, tighten the bleeder plug, and then release the brake pedal.*2

  1. Repeat *1 and *2 until all air in the fluid is completely bled out.

  1. Tighten the bleeder plug completely.

    Torque:
    for Front Brake:
    11 N*m{110 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf}
    for Rear Brake:
    10 N*m{102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf}
  1. Install the bleeder plug cap.

  1. Repeat the above procedure for each wheel to bleed the brake line.

  1. Check for brake fluid leaks.

  1. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir (HILUX_TGN26 RM0000010K4019X_01_0001.html).



7. BLEED CLUTCH LINE (for Manual Transmission)
  1. Remove the bleeder plug cap of the release cylinder.

  1. Connect a vinyl tube to the bleeder plug.

  1. Depress the clutch pedal several times, and then loosen the bleeder plug while the pedal is depressed.

  1. When fluid no longer comes out, tighten the bleeder plug, and then release the clutch pedal.

  1. Repeat the previous 2 steps until all the air in the fluid is completely bled.

  1. Tighten the bleeder plug.

    Torque:
    11 N*m{110 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf}
  1. Install the bleeder plug cap.

  1. Check that all the air has been bled from the clutch line.



8. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
  1. Install the wheel.

    Torque:
    105 N*m{1070 kgf*cm, 77 ft.*lbf}


9. CHECK PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL
  1. Pull the parking brake lever to fully engage the parking brake.

  1. Release the lever to disengage the parking brake.

  1. Slowly pull the parking brake lever all the way, and count the number of clicks.

    Standard parking brake lever travel when pulled with a force of 200 N (20 kgf, 45 lbf):
    7 to 9 clicks (for 4WD and Pre-Runner)


10. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL
  1. Completely release the parking brake lever.

  1. Loosen the lock nut.

    No. 1 Parking Brake Cable Adjusting Nut
  1. Turn the No. 1 parking brake cable adjusting nut until the lever travel is correct.

  1. Tighten the lock nut.

    Torque:
    5.2 N*m{53 kgf*cm, 46 in.*lbf}
    HINT:
    If the lever travel cannot be fully adjusted with this procedure, proceed to the Adjust Parking Brake Turn Buckle procedure.
