DESCRIPTION
The MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is used to indicate vehicle malfunction detections by the ECM. By turning the ignition switch to ON, power is supplied to the MIL circuit, and the ECM provides the circuit ground which illuminates the MIL.The MIL operation can be checked visually: When the ignition switch is first turned to ON, the MIL should be illuminated and should then turn off when the engine is started. If the MIL remains illuminated or is not illuminated, conduct the following troubleshooting procedure using the intelligent tester.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
- NOTICE:
- Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.
1.CHECK THAT MIL IS ILLUMINATED |
Perform troubleshooting in accordance with the chart below.

MIL remains on
| A
|
MIL does not illuminate
| B
|
2.CHECK WHETHER MIL TURNS OFF |
Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the tester on.
Check whether any DTCs have been stored. Note them down if necessary.
Clear DTCs (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000PDK12JX.html).
Check if the MIL turns off.
- OK:
- MIL turns off.
3.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CHECK FOR SHORT IN WIRE HARNESS) |
Disconnect the ECM connector.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Check that the MIL is not illuminated.
- OK:
- MIL is not illuminated.
