Fuel Injector -- Inspection



1. INSPECT FUEL INJECTOR ASSEMBLY

  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard Resistance:
    Tester Connection
    		Condition
    		Specified Condition
    1 - 2
    		20°C (68°F)
    		11.6 to 12.4 Ω
    If the result is not as specified, replace the fuel injector assembly.


2. INSPECT INJECTION VOLUME AND LEAKAGE


  1. Check the injection volume.

    CAUTION:
    1. This test involves high-pressure fuel and electricity.
    2. Take every precaution regarding safe handling of both the fuel and the electrical parts.
    3. Perform this test in a safe area and avoid any sparks and flames.
    4. Do not smoke.

    1. Assemble SST as shown in the illustration.

    2. Discharge the fuel system pressure (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000YLB010X_01_0001.html).

    3. Remove the No. 1 fuel hose from the fuel filter (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000YLB010X_01_0001.html).

    4. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000YLE010X.html).

      NOTICE:
      Do not disconnect the No. 2 fuel hose.

    5. Connect SST to the fuel filter.

    6. Install the fuel pressure regulator to SST (union) with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      8.5 N*m{87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf}

      NOTICE:
      Make sure that the O-ring is installed to the fuel pressure regulator.

    7. Install the O-ring to the injector.

    8. Assemble SST as shown in the illustration.

    9. Put the injector into a graduated cylinder.

      CAUTION:
      Install a suitable vinyl tube to the injector to contain any gasoline spray.

    10. Operate the fuel pump (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000YL703AX_01_0001.html).

    11. Connect SST (wire) to the injector and battery for 15 seconds and measure the injection volume with the graduated cylinder. Test each injector 2 or 3 times.

      76 to 91 cc (4.6 to 5.6 cu in.) per 15 seconds
      Difference between each injector:
      15 cc (0.9 cu in.) or less

      If the injection volume is not as specified, replace the injector.

  1. Check the leakage.

    1. In the condition above, disconnect the tester probes of SST (wire) from the battery and check the fuel leakage from the injector.

      Fuel leakage:
      1 drop or less every 12 minutes
