DESCRIPTION

The speed sensors detect the wheel speeds and send appropriate signals to the skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly). These signals are used for control of the ABS.
Each of the front and rear rotors have 48 serrations. When the rotors rotate, the magnetic field generated by the permanent magnet in the speed sensor produces AC voltage. Since the frequency of this AC voltage changes in direct proportion to the speed of the rotor, the frequency is used by the skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) to detect the speed of each wheel.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
  1. Check the speed sensor signal after cleaning or replacement (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000XHT090X.html).
  2. Before disconnecting the connector, make sure that there are no problems with the connection.
  3. After disconnecting the connector, make sure that the connector case and terminals are not deformed or corroded.

  1. Using the intelligent tester, check for any momentary interruptions in the wire harness and connector corresponding to the DTC (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000XHS0AFX.html).

2.READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (FR/FL WHEEL SPEED)
  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Start the engine.

  1. Turn the intelligent tester on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRC / Data List, and then drive the vehicle.

  1. Check the speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the intelligent tester.

    HINT:
    Factors that affect the indicated vehicle speed include tire size, tire inflation and tire wear. The speed indicated on the speedometer has an allowable margin of error. This can be tested using a speedometer tester (calibrated chassis dynamometer). For details about testing and the margin of error, see the reference chart (HILUX_TGN26 RM000002Z4Q01WX.html).
    OK:
    The speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the intelligent tester is the same as the actual vehicle speed measured using a speedometer tester (calibrated chassis dynamometer).

  1. Clear the DTC (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000XHV0CFX.html).

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Drive the vehicle at a speed of 20 km/h (12 mph) or more for at least 60 seconds.

  1. Check if the same DTC is output (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000XHV0CFX.html).

8.INSPECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR TIP
  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Remove the front speed sensor (HILUX_TGN26 RM0000010JP020X.html).

  1. Check the speed sensor tip.

    OK:
    No scratches, oil or foreign matter on the sensor tip.
    NOTICE:
    Do not replace the speed sensor if no damage to the speed sensor tip is found.
    HINT:
    1. If the sensor is contaminated with oil or other foreign material, clean the sensor.
    2. If there is iron powder sticking to the rotor, this will result in a malfunction. Confirm that the rotor is not contaminated with foreign material before replacing the sensor.

10.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - FRONT SPEED SENSOR)
  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Disconnect the skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.

  1. Disconnect the front speed sensor connector.

  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
