DTC P0010 Camshaft Position "A" Actuator Circuit (Bank 1) |
DTC P0020 Camshaft Position "A" Actuator Circuit (Bank 2) |
DESCRIPTION
The VVT (Variable Valve Timing) system adjusts the intake valve timing to improve the driveability. The engine oil pressure turns the camshaft actuator to adjust the valve timing. The camshaft timing oil control valve assembly is a solenoid valve and switches the engine oil line. The valve moves when the ECM applies 12 V to the solenoid. The ECM changes the energizing time to the solenoid (duty-cycle) in accordance with the camshaft position, crankshaft position, throttle position, etc.
DTC Code
| DTC Detection Condition
| Trouble Area
|
P0010
| An open or short in the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for bank 1) circuit (1 trip detection logic).
| - Open or short in camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for bank 1) circuit
- Camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for bank 1)
- ECM
|
P0020
| An open or short in the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for bank 2) circuit (1 trip detection logic).
| - Open or short in camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for bank 2) circuit
- Camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for bank 2)
- ECM
|
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
This DTC is designed to detect opens or shorts in the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly circuit. If the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly duty-cycle is excessively high or low while the engine is running, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store the DTC.
CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
- Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.
- Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).
- Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.
- Wait 5 seconds or more.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.
- Read the pending DTCs.
- HINT:
- If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
- Input the DTC: P0010 or P0020.
- Check the DTC judgment result.
Tester Display
| Description
|
NORMAL
| - DTC judgment completed
- System normal
|
ABNORMAL
| - DTC judgment completed
- System abnormal
|
INCOMPLETE
| - DTC judgment not completed
- Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions
|
N/A
| - Unable to perform DTC judgment
- Number of DTCs which do not fulfill DTC preconditions has reached ECU memory limit
|
- HINT:
- If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.
- If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
- If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or N/A, perform the Confirmation Driving Pattern and the DTC judgment result again.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
- HINT:
- Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
- Bank 1 refers to the bank that includes No. 1 cylinder*.
*: The No. 1 cylinder is the cylinder which is farthest from the transmission.
- Bank 2 refers to the bank that does not include No. 1 cylinder.
Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the tester on.
Clear the DTC after recording the freeze frame data and DTC (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000PDK0X5X.html).
Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
Turn the ignition switch to ON and wait 5 seconds.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.
Read the DTCs.

2.INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY |
Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000Q7403JX.html).
3.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY - ECM) |
Disconnect the ECM connector.
Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly connector.
Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
