INSPECTION PROCEDURE

INSPECT HEADLIGHT DIMMER RELAY (DIM)

CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - HEADLIGHT DIMMER RELAY)

CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT DIMMER RELAY - DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT RELAY)

CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT DIMMER RELAY - HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY)

CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY - DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT RELAY)

DESCRIPTION

1. When both of the following conditions are met, the high beam headlights will come on.
   
1. Low beam headlights are turned on by the automatic light control or manual light control.
   
2. Dimmer switch is in HIGH position.
   
2. The daytime running light relay dims the high beam headlights when operating them as daytime running lights.
   
3. When the dimmer switch is turned to the HIGH FLASH position, the high beam headlights will come on.
   

   HINT:

   1. If only a high beam headlight on one side does not illuminate, inspect the fuse, bulb, or wire harness that is related to the bulb.
      
   2. Before performing troubleshooting of the high beam headlight control, check that the low beam headlight operates normally.
      

WIRING DIAGRAM

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1. Remove the headlight dimmer relay from the engine room relay block.
   

2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
   

   Standard Resistance:

   Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
   3 - 5	Voltage is not applied between terminals 1 and 2	10 kΩ or higher
   3 - 5	Voltage is applied between terminals 1 and 2	Below 1 Ω

1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
   

   Standard Voltage:

   Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
   Headlight dimmer relay terminal 2 - Body ground	Always	11 to 14 V
   Headlight dimmer relay terminal 3 - Body ground	Always	11 to 14 V

1. Disconnect the E91 daytime running light relay connector.
   

2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
   

   Standard Resistance:

   Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
   Headlight dimmer relay terminal 1 - E91-13 (DIM)	Always	Below 1 Ω
   E91-13 (DIM) - Body ground	Always	10 kΩ or higher

1. Disconnect the A38 headlight assembly LH and A37 headlight assembly RH connector.
   

   
   
   
   

2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
   

   Standard Resistance:

   Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
   Headlight dimmer relay terminal 5 - A38-1	Always	Below 1 Ω
   Headlight dimmer relay terminal 5 - Body ground	Always	10 kΩ or higher
   Headlight dimmer relay terminal 5 - A37-1	Always	Below 1 Ω
   Headlight dimmer relay terminal 5 - Body ground	Always	10 kΩ or higher

1. Disconnect the E91 daytime running light relay connector.
   

2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
   

   Standard Resistance:

   Tester Connection	Condition	Specified Condition
   A38-2 - E91-10 (DRL)	Always	Below 1 Ω
   A38-2 - Body ground	Always	10 kΩ or higher
   A37-2 - E91-10 (DRL)	Always	Below 1 Ω
   A37-2 - Body ground	Always	10 kΩ or higher
