DESCRIPTION

The fuel temperature sensor monitors the fuel temperature. The fuel temperature sensor has a thermistor that varies its resistance depending on the fuel temperature. When the fuel temperature is low, the resistance of the thermistor is high. When the temperature is high, the resistance is low. The variations of resistance are communicated to the ECM as changes of voltage (see Fig. 1).
The fuel temperature sensor is connected to the ECM (see below). The 5 V power source voltage in the ECM is applied to the fuel temperature sensor from terminal THF via resistor R.
The resistor R and fuel temperature sensor are connected in series. When the resistance value of the fuel temperature sensor changes due to a change of fuel temperature, the voltage at terminal THF also changes. Based on this signal, the ECM corrects the pressure control compensation of the supply pump and determines errors.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

ПРИМЕЧАНИЕ:
After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration (see page RAV4_ACA30 RM000000TJ4007X.html) and initialization (see page RAV4_ACA30 RM000000TIN007X.html).
УКАЗАНИЕ:
If DTCs relating to different systems are output, and they share terminal E2 as their ground, check this ground circuit first.
1.READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (FUEL TEMPERATURE SENSOR)
  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch on (IG) and turn the tester ON.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Fuel Temp.

  1. Read the value.

    Standard value:
    Same value as the actual fuel temperature
    Result:
    Temperature Displayed
    Proceed to
    -40°C (-40°F)
    A
    140°C (284°F) or more
    B
    OK (Same as actual fuel temperature)
    C
    УКАЗАНИЕ:
    1. If there is an open circuit, the tester indicates -40°C (-40°F).
    2. If there is a short circuit, the tester indicates 140°C (284°F) or more.

  1. Disconnect the B47 fuel temperature sensor connector.

  1. Connect terminals 1 and 2 of the fuel temperature sensor wire harness side connector.

  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch on (IG) and turn the tester ON.

  1. Enter the following menu: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Fuel Temp.

  1. Read the value.

    Standard value:
    140°C (284°F) or more
  1. Reconnect the fuel temperature sensor connector.



OK
CONFIRM GOOD CONNECTION TO SENSOR. IF OK, REPLACE FUEL TEMPERATURE SENSOR

  1. Disconnect the B47 fuel temperature sensor connector.

  1. Disconnect the B32 ECM connector.

  1. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

    Standard resistance:
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    B47-2 - B32-112 (THF)
    Below 1 Ω
    B47-1 - B32-89 (ETHF)
    Below 1 Ω
  1. Reconnect the fuel temperature sensor.

  1. Reconnect the ECM connector.



OK
REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

CONFIRM GOOD CONNECTION TO ECM. IF OK, REPLACE ECM

    10 kΩ or higher
  1. Reconnect the fuel temperature sensor connector.

  1. Reconnect the ECM connector.
