When using intelligent tester:

READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (ACCEL POSITION 1, ACCEL POSITION 2)

CHECK WIRE HARNESS (ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR - ECM)

When not using intelligent tester:

CHECK ECM (VPA, VPA2 VOLTAGE)

CHECK WIRE HARNESS (ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR - ECM)

HINT:
This is the repair procedure for the accelerator pedal position sensor.
Refer to DTC P2120/19 (Toyota Fortuner RM0000012WN006X_01.html).

Condition 1 continues for 2 seconds:
  1. Difference between VPA1 and VPA2 exceeds the threshold
    (1 trip detection logic)
  1. Accelerator pedal position sensor circuit
  2. Accelerator pedal position sensor
  3. ECM

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT:
Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was running or stopped, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
NOTICE:
If the ECM is replaced, the new ECM needs initialization (Toyota Fortuner RM0000012X2005X.html).

When using intelligent tester:

  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the intelligent tester ON.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Accel Position 1 and Accel Position 2.

  1. Read the values.

    Standard voltage:
    Accelerator Pedal
    Accel Position 1
    Accel Position 2
    Released
    0.6 to 1.0 V
    1.4 to 1.8 V
    Depressed
    2.9 to 4.2 V
    3.7 to 5.0 V

  1. Disconnect the E4 ECM connector.

  1. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

    Standard resistance:
