DTC P0705/C2 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)

DESCRIPTION

The Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch detects the shift lever position and sends signals to the TCM.

DTC Code
DTC Detection Condition
Trouble Area
P0705/C2
When either condition below is met (2 trip detection logic):
  1. P, R, N, D, 3 and 2 switch lever position signals are all off simultaneously.
  1. 2 or more of the D, 3, 2 and L shift lever position signals are on simultaneously.
  1. Park/neutral position switch circuit
  2. Shift lock control ECU (Shift lock control unit assembly)
  3. Park/neutral position switch
  4. TCM

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

This DTC indicates a problem with the park/neutral position switch or the wire harness in the park/neutral position switch circuit.
The park/neutral position switch detects the shift lever position and sends a signal to the TCM.
For security, the park/neutral position switch detects the shift lever position so that the engine can be started only when the shift lever is in P or N.
The park/neutral position switch sends a signal to the TCM according to the shift lever position (R, D, 3, 2 or L).
The TCM determines that there is a problem with the switch or related parts if it receives more than 1 position signal simultaneously, or no position signals. The TCM will illuminate the MIL and store the DTC.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT:
Using the Data List of the intelligent tester allows switch, sensor, actuator and other item values to be read without removing any parts. Reading the Data List early in troubleshooting is one way to save time.
  1. Warm up the engine.
  2. Turn the ignition switch off.
  3. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to ON and push the tester main switch on.
  5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Data List.
  6. Follow the instructions on the tester and read the Data List.

ECT
Tester Display
Measurement Item/Range
Normal Condition
Diagnostic Note
Neutral Position SW Signal
PNP switch status/
ON or OFF
  1. Shift lever in P or N: ON
  2. Shift lever not in P or N: OFF
When the shift lever position displayed on the intelligent tester differs from the actual position, the adjustment of the PNP switch or shift cable may be incorrect.
Shift SW Status (R Range)
PNP switch status/
ON or OFF
  1. Shift lever in R: ON
  2. Shift lever not in R: OFF
When the shift lever position displayed on the intelligent tester differs from the actual position, the adjustment of the PNP switch or shift cable may be incorrect.
Shift SW Status (2 Range)
PNP switch status/
ON or OFF
  1. Shift lever in 2: ON
  2. Shift lever not in 2: OFF
When the shift lever position displayed on the intelligent tester differs from the actual position, the adjustment of the PNP switch or shift cable may be incorrect.
Shift SW Status (L Range)
PNP switch status/
ON or OFF
  1. Shift lever in L: ON
  2. Shift lever not in L: OFF
When the shift lever position displayed on the intelligent tester differs from the actual position, the adjustment of the PNP switch or shift cable may be incorrect.
Shift SW Status (D Range)
PNP switch status/
ON or OFF
  1. Shift lever in D: ON
  2. Shift lever not in D: OFF
When the shift lever position displayed on the intelligent tester differs from the actual position, the adjustment of the PNP switch or shift cable may be incorrect.
Shift SW Status (3 Range)
PNP switch status/
ON or OFF
  1. Shift lever in 3: ON
  2. Shift lever not in 3: OFF
When the shift lever position displayed on the intelligent tester differs from the actual position, the adjustment of the PNP switch or shift cable may be incorrect.
