  1. PRECAUTION

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

  3. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

  4. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER

  5. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER

  6. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY

Steering Angle Sensor (For Hatchback) -- Removal


CAUTION:
Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing (YARIS_NCP93 RM000000KT10EAX.html).


1. PRECAUTION
NOTICE:
After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (YARIS_NCP93 RM00000482L007X.html).


2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.


3. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

4. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER

  1. Remove the 3 screws.



    Yaris. Ncp93, 131
  1. Disengage the 4 claws and remove the lower steering column cover.



5. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER

  1. Disengage the claw and remove the upper steering column cover.



6. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY

  1. Disconnect the horn connector from the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.

  1. Slide the slider and disconnect the airbag connector from the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.

    NOTICE:
    When disconnecting the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
  1. Disconnect the steering sensor connector from the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.

  1. Disengage the 3 claws and remove the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.

    NOTICE:
    1. Do not replace the spiral cable sub-assembly when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.
    2. Do not rotate the spiral cable sub-assembly when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.
    3. Make sure the steering wheel is installed and centered before rotating the steering angle sensor when performing steering angle sensor operation inspections (inspecting for abnormal noise, diagnosis inspections, etc.).
    4. Do not remove the steering angle sensor from the spiral cable sub-assembly.
    5. If there is a malfunction in the steering angle sensor, replace the spiral cable sub-assembly with steering angle sensor.
