Park / Neutral Position Switch -- On-Vehicle Inspection



1. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

  1. Apply the parking brake and turn the ignition switch to ON.

  1. Depress the brake pedal and check that the engine can be started when the shift lever is in N or P, but does not start when the shift lever is in other positions.

  1. Check that the back-up light illuminates when the shift lever is in R, but does not function when the shift lever is in other positions.
    If a malfunction or failure is found, check the park/neutral position switch for continuity.
