Spiral Cable -- Removal |
- HINT:
- Use the same procedure for RHD and LHD vehicles.
- The procedure listed below is for LHD vehicles.
1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD |
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
- CAUTION:
- Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
- NOTICE:
- After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (LandCruiser RM000003YMD00TX.html).
- When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (LandCruiser RM000003YMF011X.html).
3. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY |
Remove the steering wheel assembly (LandCruiser RM0000039SA01YX.html).
4. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER |
for Manual Tilt and Manual Telescopic Steering Column:
Remove the lower steering column cover (LandCruiser RM0000039SI030X_02_0008.html).
for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column:
Remove the lower steering column cover (LandCruiser RM0000039SI031X_02_0008.html).
5. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER |
for Manual Tilt and Manual Telescopic Steering Column:
Remove the upper steering column cover (LandCruiser RM0000039SI030X_02_0009.html).
for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column:
Remove the upper steering column cover (LandCruiser RM0000039SI031X_02_0009.html).
6. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable sub-assembly.
- NOTICE:
- When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

Detach the 3 claws and remove the spiral cable sub-assembly.
- NOTICE:
- Do not replace the spiral cable sub-assembly when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.
- Do not rotate the spiral cable sub-assembly when the ignition switch is ON and the battery cable is connected.
- Make sure the steering wheel assembly is installed and centered before rotating the steering sensor when performing steering sensor operation inspections (inspecting for abnormal noise, diagnosis inspections, etc.).
- Do not remove the steering sensor from the spiral cable sub-assembly.
