Using a dial indicator, check the runout of the tires.
- Maximum tire runout:
- 3.0 mm (0.118 in.)
Rotate the tires as shown in the illustration.

Check and adjust the off-the-car balance.
- Standard Imbalance after Adjustment:
Tire Size
| Balance Weight
|
205R16C 110/108S 255/70R15C 112/110S 265/70R16 112S
| 14 g (0.030 lb) or less
|
265/65R17 112S
| 13 g (0.028 lb) or less
|
- HINT:
- The inner side balance weight should be installed by clipping it to the rim.
- If necessary, check and adjust the on-the-car balance.
4. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS |
Using a dial indicator, check for looseness near the center of the front axle hub.
- Maximum:
- 0.05 mm (0.00197 in.)
- NOTICE:
- Make sure that the dial indicator is set perpendicular to the measurement surface.
If the looseness is more than the maximum, replace the front axle hub sub-assembly.
5. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB RUNOUT |
Using a dial indicator, check for runout on the surface of the front axle hub inside the front axle hub bolt.
- Maximum:
- 0.05 mm (0.00197 in.)
- NOTICE:
- Make sure that the dial indicator is set perpendicular to the measurement surface.
If the runout is more than the maximum, replace the front axle hub sub-assembly.
6. INSPECT REAR AXLE SHAFT |
Using a dial indicator, measure the shaft runout and flange runout of the rear axle shaft.
- Maximum runout:
Item
| Specified Condition
|
Shaft runout
| 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.)
|
Flange runout
| 0.10 mm (0.00394 in.)
|
If the rear axle shaft is damaged or worn, or if the runout is more than the maximum, replace the rear axle shaft.
