Vane Pump (For 1Gr-Fe) -- Inspection

1. INSPECT OIL CLEARANCE

    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25.Power Assist Systems.Power Steering System.Vane Pump (For 1Gr-Fe) Inspection
  1. Using a micrometer, measure the diameter (a) of the shaft sub-assembly with pulley.

  1. Using a caliper gauge, measure the inside diameter (b) of the front vane pump housing.

    NOTICE:
Do not damage the bushing in the front vane pump housing.
  1. Subtract (a) from (b) to calculate the oil clearance.

    Maximum clearance:
    0.07 mm (0.0028 in.)
If it is greater than the maximum, replace the shaft sub-assembly with pulley.

2. INSPECT VANE PUMP ROTOR AND VANE PLATE

    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25.Power Assist Systems.Power Steering System.Vane Pump (For 1Gr-Fe) Inspection
  1. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the side face of the vane pump rotor groove and the vane plates.

    Maximum clearance:
    0.03 mm (0.0012 in.)
    NOTICE:
    1. If the clearance is more than the maximum, replace the vane plates, vane pump rotor and vane pump cam ring.
    2. Refer to the following table to select an appropriate combination of vane pump rotor, vane pump cam ring and vane plates.

Combination of vane pump rotor, vane pump cam ring and vane plates:

      Vane Pump Rotor Part No.
Vane Pump Cam Ring Part No.
      Vane Plate Part No.

3. INSPECT FLOW CONTROL VALVE

    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25.Power Assist Systems.Power Steering System.Vane Pump (For 1Gr-Fe) Inspection
  1. Check the flow control valve for leakage. Close one of the holes and apply compressed air of 392 to 490 kPa (4 to 5 kgf/cm2, 57 to 71 psi) to the hole on the opposite side. Confirm that the air does not flow out of the end holes.

    NOTICE:
    1. Check the mark on the front vane pump housing and replace the flow control valve with one having the same mark as that of the front vane pump housing.
    2. Refer to the following table to select an appropriate combination of front vane pump housing and flow control valve.

  1. Coat the flow control valve with power steering fluid.

    NOTICE:
Make sure to use new power steering fluid.

    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25.Power Assist Systems.Power Steering System.Vane Pump (For 1Gr-Fe) Inspection
  1. Insert the flow control valve into the flow control valve installation hole of the front vane pump housing, and check that the flow control valve enters smoothly under its own weight.

  1. If the flow control valve does not enter the front vane pump housing smoothly, replace the flow control valve.

4. INSPECT COMPRESSION SPRING

    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25.Power Assist Systems.Power Steering System.Vane Pump (For 1Gr-Fe) Inspection
  1. Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the compression spring.

    Minimum free length:
    29.2 mm (1.150 in.)
If the length is less than the minimum, replace the compression spring.

5. INSPECT PRESSURE PORT UNION SUB-ASSEMBLY
  1. If the union seat in the pressure port union sub-assembly is severely damaged, replace the pressure port union sub-assembly.
