Unlock Warning Switch Removal

for Type A:

1. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, disengage the claw to remove the lower No. 3 steering wheel cover.

1. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, insert the tip into service hole and disengage the 2 claws to remove the lower No. 3 steering wheel cover.

1. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, disengage the claw to remove the lower No. 2 steering wheel cover.

1. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, insert the tip into service hole and disengage the 2 claws to remove the lower No. 2 steering wheel cover.

1. Using a "TORX" socket wrench (T30), loosen the 2 "TORX" screws until the groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.

2. Pull out the steering pad from the steering wheel assembly and support the steering pad with one hand as shown in the illustration.
   

   NOTICE:

   When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.





3. Disconnect the horn connector from the steering pad.

4. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, release the 2 airbag connector locks.
   

5. Disconnect the 2 airbag connectors to remove the steering pad.
   

   NOTICE:

   When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

for Type B:

1. Using a screwdriver, push the 2 torsional springs to disengage the 2 pins.
   

   NOTICE:

   Do not drop the steering pad.

2. Pull out the steering pad from the steering wheel assembly and support the steering pad with one hand.
   

   NOTICE:

   When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.





3. Disconnect the horn connector from the steering pad.

4. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, release the 2 airbag connector locks.
   

5. Disconnect the 2 airbag connectors to remove the steering pad.
   

   NOTICE:

   When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

for Type A:

1. Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut.

3. Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable sub-assembly.
   





4. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.

   Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tip of SST (09953-05020) before use.

for Type B:

2. Put matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and steering main shaft.
   

3. Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable sub-assembly.
   





4. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.

   NOTICE:

   Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tip of SST (09953-05020) before use.

Remove the 2 screws <B>.

Disengage the 5 claws, 2 guides and 2 clips, and then remove the lower instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly.

Push the right and left sides of the lower steering column cover, and disengage the 4 claws.

Insert your fingers into the opening of the tilt lever of the lower steering column cover to disengage the claw.

HINT:

Spread the claw to disengage it.

Using a screwdriver, insert the tip into each service hole to disengage the 2 claws and remove the lower steering column cover as shown in the illustration.

Disengage the claw and the 2 pins, and remove the upper steering column cover.

Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.

Use pliers to hold the clamp and raise the claw with a screwdriver. Remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.

Turn back the floor carpet, and remove the 2 clips and column hole cover silencer sheet.

Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and the steering intermediate shaft.

Remove the bolt and separate the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering intermediate shaft.

Remove the 2 bolts and instrument panel sub reinforcement.

Disengage the 2 claws and remove the No. 3 air duct sub-assembly.

Slide the transponder key amplifier to disengage the 2 claws as shown in the illustration.

Disconnect the connector and remove the transponder key amplifier.

Disconnect the connector.

Turn the stop light switch assembly counterclockwise and remove the stop light switch assembly.

Separate the wire harness clamp from the power steering ECU assembly.

Disconnect the 2 connectors from the power steering ECU assembly.

Disconnect the connectors and disengage the wire harness clamps from the steering column assembly.

Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and steering post assembly.

NOTICE:

1. Do not release the tilt lever when the steering column assembly is not installed on the vehicle.
   
2. Do not drop or strike the steering column assembly. If dropped or struck, replace it with a new one.
   

Disconnect the connector from the power steering ECU assembly.

HINT:

Pull out the lock of the lock lever, disengage the claw, and turn the lock lever to disconnect the connector, as shown in the illustration.

Disconnect the connector from the power steering ECU assembly.

Separate the wire harness clamp from the power steering ECU assembly.

Remove the bolt, 2 nuts, and steering post assembly.

NOTICE:

1. Do not release the tilt lever when the steering column assembly is not installed on the vehicle.
   
2. Do not drop or strike the steering column assembly. If dropped or struck, replace it with a new one.
   

Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and the steering column assembly.

Remove the bolt and the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering column assembly.

Secure the steering column assembly in a vise.

Using a center punch, mark the center of the tapered-head bolt.

Using a 3 to 4 mm (0.118 to 0.157 in.) diameter drill bit, drill a hole in the tapered-head bolt.

Using a screw extractor, remove the tapered-head bolt, and then remove the steering column upper with switch bracket assembly from the steering column assembly.

Remove the 2 screws and the ignition or starter switch assembly from the steering column upper bracket.

Remove the solenoid wire connector from the ignition or starter switch assembly.

Remove the 2 screws and the ignition or starter switch assembly from the steering column upper bracket.

Remove the 2 screws and the key interlock solenoid from the steering column upper bracket.

Disconnect the solenoid wire connector from the key interlock solenoid.

Remove the solenoid wire from the steering column upper bracket.

Turn the ignition switch lock cylinder assembly to the ACC position.

Insert a screwdriver into the hole of the steering column upper with switch bracket assembly as shown in the illustration. Pull the ignition switch lock cylinder assembly until its claw contacts the stopper of the steering column upper with switch bracket assembly.

NOTICE:

Make sure to pull the ignition switch lock cylinder assembly until its claw contacts the stopper of the steering column upper with switch bracket assembly. Failure to do so will affect later work operations.

Insert a screwdriver into the hole of the steering column upper with switch bracket assembly. Tilt the screwdriver as shown in the illustration to disengage the claw of the ignition switch lock cylinder assembly, and pull out the ignition switch lock cylinder assembly.

Remove the unlock warning switch assembly by pushing up the center part and releasing the 2 claws.

HINT:

Slide the unlock warning switch in the direction shown by the arrow in the illustration to remove it.
