Front Lower Ball Joint Removal

Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the front axle shaft nut LH.

NOTICE:

1. Insert SST into the groove with the flat surface facing up.
   
2. Do not damage the tip of SST using grinders.
   
3. Completely unstake the staked part before removing the axle hub nut.
   
4. Do not damage the threads of the drive shaft.
   

Using a socket wrench (30 mm), remove the front axle shaft nut LH.

Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the front axle shaft nut LH.

NOTICE:

3. Completely unstake the staked part before removing the front axle shaft nut.
   
4. Do not damage the threads of the drive shaft.
   

Using a socket wrench (30 mm), remove the front axle shaft nut LH.

Remove the bolt and separate the front speed sensor and flexible hose from the front shock absorber bracket.

Remove the bolt and separate the front speed sensor from the steering knuckle.

NOTICE:

1. Keep the front speed sensor tip and installation surfaces free of foreign matter.
   
2. Remove the front speed sensor without turning it from its original installation angle.
   

Remove the 2 bolts and separate the front disc brake caliper assembly from the steering knuckle.

NOTICE:

Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.

Put matchmarks on the disc and the axle hub, and remove the front disc.

Remove the cotter pin and the nut.

Install SST to the tie rod end.

NOTICE:

Make sure that the upper ends of the tie rod end and SST are aligned.

Using SST, separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.

CAUTION:

Apply grease to the threads of the bolt and the tip of SST.

NOTICE:

1. Be sure to tighten the string firmly to secure SST to the steering knuckle to prevent SST from falling off.
   
2. Install SST with the center nut so that A and B are parallel. Otherwise, the dust cover may be damaged.
   
3. Be sure to place the wrench on the part indicated in the illustration.
   
4. Do not damage the front disc brake dust cover.
   
5. Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.
   
6. Do not damage the steering knuckle.
   

Remove the bolt and 2 nuts, and separate the front lower suspension arm from the lower ball joint.

Put matchmarks on the front drive shaft assembly and the front axle hub sub-assembly.

Using a plastic hammer, separate the front drive shaft assembly from the front axle assembly.

NOTICE:

Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot or speed sensor rotor.

Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts, and front axle assembly.

Secure the front axle assembly in a vise.

NOTICE:

When using a vise, do not overtighten it.

Remove the cotter pin and nut.

Install SST to the front lower ball joint as shown in the illustration.

NOTICE:

Check that the clearance measurement between SST and the front axle assembly is 1 mm (0.04 in.).

Using SST, remove the front lower ball joint from the front axle assembly as shown in the illustration.

CAUTION:

Apply grease to the threads and end of the SST bolt.

NOTICE:

1. Install SST so that A and B are parallel.
   
2. Be sure to place a wrench on the part indicated in the illustration.
   
3. Do not damage the front lower ball joint dust cover.
