Instrument Panel Safety Pad - Removal(2006/01 - 2007/12)

2. Align front wheels facing straight ahead

3. Disconnect cable from negative battery terminal

4. Remove lower no. 3 steering wheel cover

5. Remove lower no. 2 steering wheel cover

6. Remove steering pad

7. Remove steering wheel assembly

8. Remove front door scuff plate lh

9. Remove cowl side trim sub-assembly lh

10. Remove lower instrument panel finish panel lh

11. Remove steering column cover

12. Remove turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly

13. Remove no. 1 instrument panel sub-assembly

14. Remove lower instrument panel finish panel

15. Remove instrument cluster finish panel no.1

16. Remove combination meter assembly

17. Remove front door scuff plate rh

18. Remove cowl side trim sub-assembly rh

19. Remove instrument panel no. 2 under cover sub-assembly

20. Remove lower instrument panel sub-assembly

21. Remove shift lever knob sub-assembly (for automatic transaxle)

22. Remove shift lever knob sub-assembly (for manual transaxle)

23. Remove no. 1 instrument cluster finish panel garnish

24. Remove no. 2 instrument cluster finish panel garnish

25. Remove floor shift position indicator housing sub-assembly (for automatic transaxle)

26. Remove upper console panel (for manual transaxle)

27. Remove upper console rear panel sub-assembly (for automatic transaxle)

28. Remove upper console rear panel sub-assembly (for manual transaxle)

29. Remove lower instrument cluster finish panel center sub-assembly

30. Remove instrument panel no. 2 register assembly

31. Remove radio tuner opening cover with heater control panel assembly (w/o radio receiver)

32. Remove radio receiver with heater control panel assembly (w/ radio receiver)

33. Remove console box pocket

34. Remove console box carpet

35. Remove console box assembly

36. Remove no. 2 console box insert front

37. Remove no. 1 console box insert front

38. Remove front pillar garnish lh

39. Remove instrument panel no. 1 register assembly

40. Remove instrument panel no. 1 speaker panel sub-assembly

41. Remove front no. 2 speaker assembly (for lh side)

42. Remove front pillar garnish rh

43. Remove instrument panel no. 3 register assembly

44. Remove instrument panel no. 2 speaker panel sub-assembly

45. Remove front no. 2 speaker assembly (for rh side)

46. Remove no. 1 defroster nozzle garnish

47. Disconnect instrument panel wire assembly

48. Remove instrument panel safety pad assembly

49. Remove no. 3 instrument panel stay

CAUTION:

Wait for 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent airbag deployment (Click here).

1. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claw and remove the No. 3 lower steering wheel cover.

   HINT:

   Tape up the screwdriver tip before use.

1. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claw and remove the No. 2 lower steering wheel cover.

   HINT:

   Tape up the screwdriver tip before use.

1. Using a "TORX" socket (T30), loosen the 2 "TORX" screws until the groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.

2. Pull out the steering pad from the steering wheel assembly and support the steering pad with one hand.

   NOTICE:

   When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.

3. Disconnect the horn connector from the steering pad.

4. Disconnect the 2 airbag connectors and remove the steering pad.

   NOTICE:

   When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

5. Remove the steering pad.

1. Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut.

2. Put matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and the steering main shaft.

3. Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable.

4. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.

   SST

   09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05031)
   

1. Disengage the 7 claws and 3 clips, and remove the front door scuff plate LH.

1. Remove the cowl side trim clip.

2. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the cowl side trim sub-assembly LH.

1. Remove the bolt <A> and the screw <B>.

2. Disengage the 2 claws and the DLC3.

3. Disconnect the hood lock control cable assembly.

4. Disengage the claw and the 4 clips.

5. Remove the air hose, disconnect the connector, and then remove the lower instrument panel finish panel LH.

1. Remove the 2 screws <D>.

2. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the lower steering column cover.

3. Disengage the claw and remove the upper steering column cover.

1. Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.

2. Using pliers, grip the claws of the clip and remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.

1. Disengage the 3 claws and the 2 clips.

2. Disconnect each connector and remove the instrument panel sub-assembly.

1. Disengage the 2 claws and 2 clips, and then remove the lower instrument panel finish panel.

1. Remove the 2 clips.

2. Disengage the guide and 4 claws and then remove the instrument cluster finish panel.

1. Remove the 4 screws <E>.

2. Disconnect each connector and remove the combination meter assembly.

HINT:

Use the same procedures for the RH side and the LH side.

1. Disengage the 4 claws.

2. Disengage the 2 guides and remove the No. 2 under cover sub-assembly.

1. Remove the bolt <A>.

2. Remove the 4 screws <B>.

3. Disengage the 3 claws and 3 clips, and then remove the lower instrument panel sub-assembly.

1. Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.

1. Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.

1. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the No. 1 instrument cluster finish panel garnish.

1. Disengage the 2 clips and remove the No. 2 instrument cluster finish panel garnish.

1. Disengage the 6 claws and the 3 clips, and then remove the floor shift position indicator housing sub-assembly.

2. with Seat Heater System:
   

   1. Disconnect each connector.

1. Open the lid of the upper console panel.

2. Apply protective tape to the area shown in the illustration.

3. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 2 claws and the 5 clips, and then remove the upper console panel as shown in the illustration.

1. Disengage the 3 claws and the 5 clips.

2. Disengage the clamp.

3. Disconnect the connector and remove the upper console rear panel sub-assembly.

1. Disengage the 3 claws and the 5 clips, and remove the upper console rear panel sub-assembly.

1. Remove the 2 screws <F>.

2. Disengage the 4 claws.

3. Disconnect each connector and remove the instrument cluster finish panel center sub-assembly.

   HINT:

   Set the shift lever in the D position.

1. Apply protective tape to the areas shown in the illustration.

2. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 3 clips.

3. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 4 clips.

4. Disconnect the connector and remove the instrument panel No. 2 register assembly.

1. Remove the 4 bolts <N>.

2. Disengage the 6 clips and remove the radio tuner opening cover with heater control panel assembly.

3. Disconnect the connector.

1. Remove the 4 bolts.

2. Pull the radio receiver with heater control panel assembly toward the rear of the vehicle and disengage the 4 clips.

3. Disconnect each connector and remove the radio receiver with heater control panel assembly.

1. Remove the console box pocket.

1. Remove the console box carpet.

1. Remove the 2 screws <F>.

2. Remove the 2 bolts <G> and the console box assembly.

1. Remove the 3 screws <F>.

2. Disengage the clip and remove the No. 2 console box insert front.

1. Remove the 3 screws <F>.

2. Disengage the clip and remove the No. 1 console box insert front.

1. Pull the upper part of the garnish toward the inside of the cabin and disengage the 2 clips.

2. Cut off the clip <A>.

3. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the front pillar garnish LH.

4. Remove the clip <A> from the vehicle body.

5. Protect the curtain shield airbag assembly.
   

   1. Cover the airbag with a 700 mm (27.56 in.) x 120 mm (4.72 in.) cloth or piece of nylon and fix the ends of the cover with tape, as shown in the illustration.

      NOTICE:

      Cover the curtain shield airbag with a protective cover as soon as the front pillar garnish is removed.

1. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the instrument panel No. 1 register assembly.

1. Disengage the 6 claws and the 2 clips.

2. Disengage the 2 guides and remove the instrument panel No. 1 speaker panel sub-assembly.

1. Remove the 2 bolts and front No. 2 speaker assembly.

2. Disconnect the connector.

1. Pull the upper part of the garnish toward the inside of the cabin and disengage the 2 clips.

2. Cut off the clip <A>.

3. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the front pillar garnish RH.

4. Remove the clip <A> from the vehicle body.

5. Protect the curtain shield airbag assembly.
   

   1. Cover the airbag with a 700 mm (27.56 in.) x 120 mm (4.72 in.) cloth or piece of nylon and fix the ends of the cover with tape, as shown in the illustration.

1. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the instrument panel No. 3 register assembly.

1. Disengage the 6 claws and the 2 clips.

2. Disengage the 2 guides and remove the instrument panel No. 2 speaker panel sub-assembly.

HINT:

Use the same procedures for the RH side and the LH side (Click here).

1. Disengage the 8 clips and the 4 guides.

2. Disconnect each connector and remove the No. 1 defroster nozzle garnish.

1. Disconnect the connector (yellow colored one).

1. Disengage each clamp.

2. Disconnect each connector.

3. Remove the bolt <J>.

4. Remove the 2 passenger airbag bolts <K>.

5. with Plasmacluster:
   

   1. Disconnect the connector.
      

      
      
      
      

6. Remove the 2 bolts <H> or <O>.

7. Remove the 2 nuts <C> or <I>.

8. Disengage the 5 claws and remove the instrument panel safety pad assembly.
   

   
   
   
   

1. Disengage the claw and remove the 5 No. 3 instrument panel stays.
