Title:

Knock Sensor

  1. Install knock sensor

  2. Install water outlet pipe no.1

  3. Connect heater water inlet hose a

  4. Install cylinder head sub-assembly



1. INSTALL KNOCK SENSOR
  1. Install the 2 knock sensors with the 2 bolts as shown in the illustration.Torque: 20 N*m{204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf} 4Runner
  2. Install the 2 knock sensors with the 2 bolts as shown in the illustration.

    Torque:
    20 N*m{204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf}
  1. Connect the 2 knock sensor connectors.



2. INSTALL WATER OUTLET PIPE NO.1
  1. Install the 3 bolts [A] and the water outlet pipe.Torque: 10 N*m{102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf} 4Runner
  2. Install the 3 bolts [A] and the water outlet pipe.

    Torque:
    10 N*m{102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf}
  1. Install the 4 wire harness clamps [B].



3. CONNECT HEATER WATER INLET HOSE A
  1. Connect the heater water inlet hose A. 4Runner
  2. Connect the heater water inlet hose A.



4. INSTALL CYLINDER HEAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
  1. Place the cylinder head on the cylinder head gasket.

  1. Install the 8 cylinder head bolts.

    HINT:
    1. The cylinder head bolts are tightened in 2 successive steps (Procedures "A" and "B").
    2. If any cylinder head bolt is broken or deformed, replace it.

    1. Apply a light coat of engine oil to the threads of the cylinder head bolts.

    2. Install the plate washer to the cylinder head bolt.

    3. Using several steps, tighten each bolt uniformly with a 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench in the sequence as shown in the illustration (Procedure "A").Torque: 36 N*m{367 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf}If any one of the cylinder head bolts does not meet the torque specification, replace the cylinder head bolt.NOTICE: Do not drop the washers into the cylinder head. 4Runner
    4. Using several steps, tighten each bolt uniformly with a 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench in the sequence as shown in the illustration (Procedure "A").

      Torque:
      36 N*m{367 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf}
      If any one of the cylinder head bolts does not meet the torque specification, replace the cylinder head bolt.
      NOTICE:
      Do not drop the washers into the cylinder head.
    5. Mark the front side of each cylinder head bolt with paint. 4Runner
    6. Mark the front side of each cylinder head bolt with paint.

    7. Retighten the cylinder head bolts 180° as shown (Procedure "B").

    8. Check that the painted marks are now at 180° opposite to the engine front.

  1. Install the ground cables with the 2 bolts.

    Torque:
    8.0 N*m{82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf}
