Parking Brake Cable

  1. Remove rear wheel

  2. Separate rear disc brake caliper assembly lh

  3. Remove rear disc

  4. Remove parking brake shoe return tension spring

  5. Remove parking brake shoe strut compression spring

  6. Remove parking brake shoe strut lh

  7. Remove parking brake shoe

  8. Remove console upper rear panel sub-assembly

  9. Remove console panel sub-assembly upper

  10. Remove console upper panel garnish no. 1

  11. Remove console upper panel garnish no. 2

  12. Remove console box assembly rear

  13. Remove parking brake cable assembly no. 3

1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL


2. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH

  1. Remove the 2 bolts and separate the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH.

    HINT:
    Don not disconnect the flexible hose from the brake caliper assembly LH.


3. REMOVE REAR DISC
  1. Release the parking brake, and remove rear disc.HINT: Put matchmarks on the disc and remove the axle shaft.If the disc cannot be removed easily, turn the shoe adjuster until the wheel turns freely. 4Runner

  2. Release the parking brake, and remove rear disc.

    HINT:
    1. Put matchmarks on the disc and remove the axle shaft.
    1. If the disc cannot be removed easily, turn the shoe adjuster until the wheel turns freely.


4. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING
  1. Using a needle-nose pliers, remove the 2 return tension springs. 4Runner

  2. Using a needle-nose pliers, remove the 2 return tension springs.



5. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT COMPRESSION SPRING

  1. Slide out the front shoe and remove the compression spring.



6. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT LH


7. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE

  1. Release the cup claw and remove the front and rear parking brake shoe.

  1. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the shoe lever.

  1. Remove the tension spring and shoe adjuster screw set from the front rear shoe.

  1. Remove the 2 shoe hold-down springs, 4 cups and 2 pins.

  1. Using a screwdriver, remove the C-washer.

  1. Remove the shim and shoe lever from the parking brake shoe.



8. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
  1. Disengage the 5 clips and 2 claws, and remove the console upper rear panel, and then disconnect the connectors. 4Runner

  2. Disengage the 5 clips and 2 claws, and remove the console upper rear panel, and then disconnect the connectors.



9. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY UPPER
  1. Disengage the 6 clips and 2 claws, and then remove the upper console panel sub-assembly.NOTICE: Be careful not to snap the claws during the operation. 4Runner

  2. Disengage the 6 clips and 2 claws, and then remove the upper console panel sub-assembly.

    NOTICE:
    Be careful not to snap the claws during the operation.


10. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH NO. 1
  1. Disengage the clip. 4Runner

  2. Disengage the clip.

  1. Pull the No. 1 console upper panel garnish rearward to be removed.



11. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH NO. 2


12. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY REAR
  1. Disconnect the connectors. 4Runner

  2. Disconnect the connectors.

  1. Remove the 6 bolts <B> and rear console box assembly.



13. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY NO. 3
  1. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the parking brake cable assembly No. 3 from the backing plate. 4Runner

  2. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the parking brake cable assembly No. 3 from the backing plate.

  1. Remove the 4 bolts from the parking cable assembly No. 3.

  1. Remove the clip and disconnect the parking brake cable assembly No. 3 from the parking brake equalizer. 4Runner

  2. Remove the clip and disconnect the parking brake cable assembly No. 3 from the parking brake equalizer.
